Competitions

Six formats. Your sport’s own rules.

Pick a system, set your rules, and Challanger builds the schedule, collects the results and keeps the table straight. From a four-player club ladder to a federation season across several venues.

The six systems

01

League Round Robin

Everyone plays everyone and the table decides the winner. Points add up over the whole season, every player gets the same number of matches, and several divisions can run side by side — with play-offs or a final at the end if you want one.

02

League Swiss

Everyone plays the same number of rounds, but nobody has to play everyone. Each round pairs players on equal points, never the same two twice, so the field sorts itself out without anyone being knocked out. Ties are settled by Buchholz.

03

Knockout

The classic draw: lose and you’re out, win and you move on, all the way to the final. Challanger builds the draw and advances the winners, and a consolation draw keeps early losers playing.

04

Rank

Every player carries a rating. Beat a stronger player and you climb a lot; lose to a weaker one and you drop a lot. Every result also counts towards the global ELO ranking for your sport.

05

Pyramid

Players sit in a pyramid and challenge upwards, a few places at a time. Win and you swap places. Play never stops, with deadlines for accepting and playing every challenge.

06

Champagne

Players sign up alone, but every match is doubles — with a new partner each round. Points are personal: you score the games your pair won, so the winner is one player, not a team.

The rules your sport actually plays by

Most platforms give you a box for the winner’s score. Challanger gives your sport its own record sheet.

Basketball

5×5 and 3×3 to FIBA rules, entered by quarter with overtime, team fouls, and a FIBA or NBA-style sheet.

Football and futsal

Separate sports, separate rules, both to FIFA: halves, accumulated fouls, penalty shootouts taken kick by kick or as a single score.

Handball

IHF rules, two-minute suspensions, seven-metre throws, the official record.

Volleyball

FIVB, 1, 3 or 5 sets, liberos, substitutions per set, the full sanction scale.

Chess

FIDE, boards and colours in team matches, a clock built into the page, and a tiebreak ladder from rapid to blitz to Armageddon.

Tennis and racket sports

The official sheet with code violations, time violations, medical time-outs and suspensions.

Pickleball, boules, esports

11, 15 or 21 points; Bo1 to Bo7.

Anything outside that list still runs on custom rules and scoring you write yourself.

The season that doesn’t fall apart

  • Scheduling from your real capacity.Days × courts × time slots, live availability, and suggested next matches with the reasons they fit and the obstacles in the way.
  • Import instead of typing.Read a competition in from a spreadsheet, CSV, image, PDF or a URL with results on it — the format is detected for you. Or copy last season with every setting and none of the results.
  • Changes mid-season.Substitutions and withdrawals with inherited points, fully reversible. Waiting lists admitted in order. Duplicate people merged into one.
  • Results the way they happened.Walkovers and retirements with their own statistics, extra time, penalties, points per player where the sport wants them, line-ups with a submission deadline the organiser accepts or rejects.
  • Three pages, one competition.A public page, a competitors’ page and a management page — plus a sharing kit with a QR code, ready-made text in seven languages, an embeddable widget and WhatsApp, SMS and e-mail links.
  • Sign-up lists.Open a public link and collect entries before the competition exists.
